Meet The New Year, Same As The Old Year

I can’t think of a better way to leave 2010 than this:

No matter what I think of, whether it’s David Wright’s opening day home run, Ike Davis flipping over the railing hundreds of times, Oliver Perez refusing minor league assignments, strikes, or common sense, Carlos Beltran’s rush to surgery, Jeff Francoeur’s vapor trail of fluoride, Jerry’s scorched earth in the bullpen, Omar’s scorched earth everywhere else, Ron Artest’s Mets video is my absolute favorite moment of 2010.

Why?  Because whenever I get down in the dumps about the direction this team has gone in 2010 and will be headed in the standings in 2011, all I do is tell myself that success is a nuisance, and I feel better.  I mean, I think of what has gotten me through a season which included a 20-inning game in which the only two runs by the good guys were scored via sacrifice flies hit off a position player (that really should have been our first hint), it’s this video.  It really sounds like advice from a man who has been through some therapy, right?  Think about it, rationalizing failure.  It is therapeutic.

You know what else is therapeutic, ice cream in little helmets, y’all.

You folks have a happy new year, and don’t slip up when counting down from Staub to Mookie (or if you’re under 20, Endy to Castillo).  And for Pete’s sake, don’t drink and drive.  Because if you do, you just might plow into a Mets reliever in a cab at 2AM and basically end his career.  You want that on your conscience?  Do you?  Seriously, either put down the Grey Goose, or put down the keys.  Yes, I’m talking to you … the guy trying to start the wave at your friends’ beer bong party.  You know who you are.  Stop it.
